Day 08 → a photo that makes you angry/sad
If you don't buy free-range eggs, this is what you support; five hens being stuffed into small cages, the space so small sometimes that when they stand up, their heads poke out of the top of the cage. They lack the room to even stretch their wings. These cages are lined up in rows and stacked in tiers and some 'farms' hold as many as 800,000 chickens. Who, incidentally might have been debeaked, a process where the end of their beak is cut off with a hot knife, so as to avoid fights with other birds in their tiny cages. And who, also, might have been forced in molting, a process where the farmer
starves the hens for up to two weeks, causing the hens to molt. The forced molting puts the hens in a survival mode, so that when they are fed again, they begin to lay more eggs. They live like this for two years.
