In which I meme the joint up

Two memes because it's been a while since I've done one and I'm super bored. Where the fuck is everyone? HDU have lives :(
Meme the first:
Comment and I will:
1. Tell you why I friended you.
2. Associate you with something. A fandom, a song, a color, a piece of fruit. SOMETHING.
3. Tell you something I like about you.
4. Tell you a memory I have of you.
5. Ask you a random question.
6. Tell you my favorite userpic of yours.
In return, you must post this in your LJ. Or don't. You know, whatever.

Your fandom of choice: MERLIN
Your honest opinion about canon: I've always been pretty frank in my belief that it's mindless (albeit fun and lulzy) entertainment for the family on a Saturday night. The actors keep me watching and fandom provides me with the proper drama and romance.
What you would have done differently: Hired better writers. That's not to say they always do a bad job, I actually greatly admired that they had Merlin poison Morgana (I didn't agree with it but it didn't stop me from admiring that they had the guts to go there), but they might have had a brilliant show on their hands if:
a) it wasn't so damn formulaic and,
b) they treated it as a series rather than an individual episode's worth of entertainment.
But, hey, that's probably the BBC's fault as much as anyone else's, to be fair. The creators can only make what the network wants.
Character/s you like: I think I've liked and disliked everyone at some stage, to be honest.
Character/s you dislike: See above.
Ship/s you like: Merlin/Arthur, Gwaine/Merlin, Bradley/Colin. In theory I like other ships but I only actively seek out these. Take Gwen/Morgana for instance. Season one, I could totally support that ship, but despite my preference to women in real life, I actually have a hard time reading femslash, which is odd, I think. Anyhoo.
Ship/s you dislike: I certainly don't dislike any ships, to each their own, but personally, I can't ship people if they haven't interacted (like Leon/Morgana. Hot in theory but have they even spoken?) or if I can't see romantic chemistry (like Merlin/Gwen, who I could only see as great friends). And, of course, I think the writers messed up Arthur/Gwen by having them fall in love after a few eps in series two after having barely interacted in series one, but they're doing okay in series three so far, though I don't think I'll ever ship it.
Best thing about the fandom: How many freaking crazy talented people we have! And not so much anymore, but for a while this fandom was genuine rainbows and sparkles, I've never been in a fandom like it before.
Worst thing about the fandom: Admittedly, the whining does occasionally get to me, most recently the Arthur/Gwen stuff and the Arthur or Merlin is a bad person debates. They're both "sensitive" subjects and I appreciate that everyone has the right to rant and I'm always one for encouraging people to speak their minds, especially un-anon, and by the power of Bradley's scruff, I've done my bit of venting on these subjects before, just ask
rayslady. But I'm sick of it all now, the steady stream of annoyed people. It sucks the fun out for me when people take everything so damn seriously. Whinging about Gwen and her romance with Arthur will not make it go away. It's happening and it always was. I mean, see above, I don't ship it, I think the writers screwed that storyline up, but I can say that without it affecting my love of the show and now tralala moving on. The same goes for the Arthur-is-a-bully debate. You know why Arthur throws things at Merlin? Because the writers are crap. The end. NOW BACK TO THE RAINBOWS PLEASE. Yes, I totes just ranted about rants, helloooo hypocrisy XD But, do you know what I mean? I get people's frustrations but if something is making you unhappy, why keep focusing on it? Move on and look for the positives!
Have you made fandom friends: I certainly have *smooshes her flist*
Have you made fandom enemies: Not that I know of!
Do you secretly fangirl anyone in fandom: Ha, yeah, I guess, though you mellow the more you get to know people. I was super excited when one of my fanmixes got a comment from
kelene (XD hey bb. And I would have been ridic excited when you friended me except you'd changed her name and I didn't know who you were lol), I totally admit to reading all of
franticsga's Merlin-related entires when I first found her recaps after I'd just joined fandom at the start of series two, and I might have squeed a bit when
derryere asked to friend me in a friending meme. I AM SO COOL.

Tropes/kinks that work for you: SCHOOLBOY FIC, THE END. Okay, a few more things: INEXPERIENCED FUMBLINGS (why isn't there more of this, I like awkward boys!), sexual confusion, rough sex and fingering, god, my kingdom for some more fucking fingering, fandom.
Tropes/kinks that don't work for you: Anything non-con, more than a five year age gap, and endearments (sweetheart) and anti-endearments (slut).
Your contribution to fandom, if any: Fanmixes and the occasional bad fic.
Share your works in progress, if any: Um, so I have an Arthur-is-dead-and-Merlin-is-sad fanmix on the go, but it's slow work. And two fics, which I'll post snippets of -
This one was written as a short little thing for the 'kiss of life' trope, except now I'm stuck, even though I figure there's only another 300 words to go. I sort of like it though and you'll not often hear me say I like my own writing.
This next one is in my threesome 'verse. Not a sequel, more like another slice of life for Katie/Colin/Bradley. I got to a certain stage though and decided I hated it, so it's currently in limbo at 800-ish words. NC-17 warning, kiddies.

He'd noticed Merlin's mouth before. It was inevitable, really, given how much the young man prattled on. One couldn't entirely blame Arthur for letting his attention wander from time to time, not least when Merlin really hit his stride in lecturing Arthur about "dangerous" this, or "they're trying to kill you" that. But wondering about his lips - what it would be like to trace their line with his tongue, to nip at the full, pouty delectably pink flesh, to coax and catch the heady, breathless moans that would escape between them - that was distinctly new.
Uncomfortably new.
So new, in fact, that Arthur could still trace its origins. Back four complete moon cycles and several days. Back to a dreary afternoon when Arthur had, rather inconveniently and rudely as Merlin henceforth quipped, died.
He remembers nothing which is to say he remembers everything. He recalls the void - saturating emptiness and the acrid stench of oblivion - then sunshine, peeking out from behind a cloud to filter dull orange light behind his eyes.
And Merlin.
Merlin's lips pressing against his own and of course, of course it was Merlin, Arthur hadn't needed to open his eyes to know what his heart told him to be true.
This next one is in my threesome 'verse. Not a sequel, more like another slice of life for Katie/Colin/Bradley. I got to a certain stage though and decided I hated it, so it's currently in limbo at 800-ish words. NC-17 warning, kiddies.
Katie steps closer, trails her fingers over the mark that now decorates the underside of Colin's upper arm. The red, raw skin is in striking contrast to his otherwise pale frame and Bradley appreciates her penchant for making things so aesthetically pleasing. This is an art form to her, an expression of love. Naked skin a blank canvas on which to create something textured and beautiful.
And Colin is beautiful.
Bradley hums as much, before biting at Colin's knees just because he can. He peppers kisses up Colin's legs and nips at the inside of his thighs, encouraging his legs further apart so he can lap at his balls, before burying himself nose deep in those dark curls, inhaling the gorgeous, heady aroma of arousal.
The leather cuff snaps at Colin's skin again, across his ribs this time, and Bradley's hand shoots up to soothe the forming welt as he mouths as far as he can up Colin's cock. It's been straining, unwavering, for the better part of an hour and with his free hand, Bradley pulls it into his mouth, sucks down as far as he can before Katie nudges him away. The leather wraps itself around the inside of Colin's left thigh but Bradley doesn't move to soothe it immediately, waits a second to see the skin blush and raise furiously, waits to let the sharp sting seep deep into Colin's bones. When Colin's hips push forward desperately seeking friction, Bradley doesn't deny him; licks at the marred skin in frenzy, tongue tracing over the tender rise of flesh beneath his hands. Colin gasps aloud when Bradley's teeth follow much the same path.
"You liking this, Morgan?" Katie's tone is breezy, almost playful, as she twists the leather in her hands. "You want to know how much I like it?"
Bradley can feel the quiver of excitement that curls beneath Colin's skin.
Katie beckons Bradley with a motion of her head and he's up off his knees and by her side with haste. He doesn't need to be told what to do, knows enough to let her grab a handful of hair so she can pull his mouth to hers. Knows to make it an exhibition; small, needy moans into each other's mouths as Katie fights and Bradley surrenders. Knows to trail his hand down slowly from where it cups her cheek; down, down, down past her neck and her collarbone, between her breasts, peaked nipples aching for attention, to her stomach, where his palm splays out and gentle fingers pad further south still.
His lips brush against Katie's temple as he turns his head to look at Colin. Bradley already knows what he's going to see but nothing ever quite prepares him for the sight of Colin Morgan needing: pupils shot, eyes almost feral in the lamplight; breath coming in short, sharp bursts, making his chest heave hard enough so that on each in-breath, Bradley can see the shadows of his ribs. The patch of skin there where Katie struck him is still inflamed though the impression will have lost its sting by now, replaced instead by a prickly, pulsing heat just under the surface that feels, as Bradley well knows, both maddening and delightful.
Bradley slips two fingers inside of Katie as she kisses him once more and moves her hips, pushing down on his hand, grinding, trying to draw him deeper.
"Tell him," she demands, tugging at his bottom lip with her teeth. "Tell him, Bradley."
She rolls her hips, back arching in a delicious curve of pale, soft skin that Colin tries to trace with unfocused eyes, and Bradley's been silent for too long now, can't help the croak in his voice when he chokes out, "fuck, Col, fuck, she's so fucking wet."

Date: 2010-10-17 04:41 am (UTC)Just jumping in to say me too! I'm pretty anti A/G and I'll gladly express my reasoning for this in a civilised fashion but all that mega bashing just gives slashers a bad name and I mean really; most of us are a delightful bunch of people!
Oh and; I'm sorry, but I literally cannot see why people seem to think his behaviour is any worse than it has ever been on that front
Agreed, again!

Date: 2010-10-16 11:54 am (UTC)The writers really wouldn't be so bad if they just followed up on their plots and ideas! I mean (though I've not seen these episodes so I could be wrong) they had Merlin poison Morgana but then in S3 it's mentioned once or twice and then there's no follow up? They could have done some really fantastic things with that storyline. :/
ILUUUU and your fanmixes. You have super taste in music. And oh man, Communications in Binary! I remember when I first read that I was on IM with sillyshy for HOURS talking about it. It's amazing how that fic gets you so invested and is so satisfying even with just a kiss in the last scene. *sigh* Good stuff.
jahfdkjgh omg, that threesome snippet. UNF. Katie knows just how to own it ♥

3. Your idea for more badass!Colin clearly indicates higher brain power, that's just fact.
4. So, I mentioned this in the meme, but I smiled like this XDDD when you commented on one of my fanmixes, no lie.
5. I've always been curious as to why you lost the Merlin love?

Date: 2010-10-16 12:30 pm (UTC)Basically I agree with you about the writers, they screwed up so much, and sometimes it really pisses me off, but I then I watch it again and there's Colin and Bradley and they're being cute and handsome and funny and everything is well^^.

4. Round near the time we first became friends I did a spam party and you were enthusiastic and I LOVED that!

Date: 2010-10-16 02:25 pm (UTC)absolute best book, hmmm: I think I'm gonna have to say "Torture the Artist" by Joey Goebbel, because after I had finished it I sat there for half an hour and just did nothing, I was absolutely stunned and shocked. for me it was very intense and I really love the idea behind it and the characterizations.

OH MY GOD. I love, love, love schoolboy fic. It's my handsdown favorite AU type of fic. Remember my kink bingo card from way back when? I have all those prompts saved you guys came up with. You probably don't remember yours, but it was fingering in front of a mirror. HEE. Someday I will write them! If I treat all those prompts like pornathon entries . . . !!

WHERE WAS I AGAIN? RIGHT, MEME!
1. I'm guessing friending meme and I'm also guessing because you had wicked taste in music.
2. DRUGS because you're pretty candid about getting high and it reminds me of my younger days. God, for 25, I'm such a nana.
3. You write your entries with remarkable grace and self-awareness, it's admirable!
4. I'm still lolling about your drunk post the other week xD
5. Do you have any weird habits?
6. The Katie one makes me happy in special ways.

Date: 2010-10-16 06:55 pm (UTC)Uh, I partly agree with your comments re: Merlin/fandom? Although I've been inactive lately, so I don't know exactly what's going on, buuuut. As lame or as poorly written as this show gets, it still has its good points (e.g. Colin Morgan, or the massive gay), and that's why I'm still a part of it. Plus, I've met some pretty cool people through Merlin *pokes youuu* so, you know. That's part of the love.
no subject
Date: 2010-10-17 07:28 am (UTC)OH NO, don't get me wrong, I love the show, I really do. Just not in the "that is outstanding writing and development, here, let me nominate you for an award of excellence" way because I do think it's just designed for a casual night's entertaintment. Other than the bad writing, it is ridiculously fun and massively, MASSIVELY gay and I'm so happy they cast Colin Morgan because the boy is the most talented thing ever and I'm so happy they cast Bradley James because I don't know how I ever lived without his FAAAACE and the chemistry he and Colin have together.
Meme time!
1. Because you commented on one of my fanmixes and we got to talking and I pretty much gypped you into friending me XD
2. Because of your username, I will forever associate you with plums.

Date: 2010-10-17 12:30 pm (UTC)Ahahaha, the story behind my name is hilarious and stupid. The two elements are (unfortunately) unrelated. Towards the beginning of last summer I posted some drunk videos of myself. I was so drunk that I was talking to my toast. The "eloquent" part is sarcastic. I am really rather ineloquent when commenting on fic/art. It is an embarrassment and a complete mystery to me because I am really quite good at writing wordy, bullshitty essays. But for some reason, fandom makes me ineloquent. SO MUCH SHINY!!!!

If I could go back in time.. you know I keep grumbling about my life right now, but I don't think I'd change it if I got the chance, because that would mean changing me, and I quite like me :P

3. You have delicious taste in music, that is the makings of a winner in my book XD
4. Being surprised at how helpful you were when you beta'ed my fic. Not that I expected you to be bad, but, you know, there's always that feeling of 'oh, I haven't worked with this person before, how are they going to do things' and you were so awesome.

When nessie got into icon making again, she dragged me with her. XD And I remembered about LJ. But she didn't want her own journal, so she posted her icons in mine, which was confusing after a while, so um, yes. That's how I ended up here. °_°

Date: 2010-10-17 04:35 am (UTC)OMG YES THIS! I voiced my opinions on the matter but I wish I hadn't bothered because it just makes me so cranky! I love discussions, particularly ones where people have such varied opinions. But what annoys me the most is that people can't seem to accept that just because somebody has a different opinion doesn't make them wrong and I think this is what causes so much wank. I think people have a habit of generalising too and I personally get offended when people assume that I'd cry "domestic abuse! bullying!" as others did. Because really, ITS A TV SHOW GUYS, its purpose is to entertain. Sure we can take lessons from it or get really emotionally invested but at the end of the day its not there to educate the kiddies, thats a parents job. I tried to state this to the original letter writer but apparently because I believed it wasn't such srs bzns that makes me some kind of bullying sympathiser, and god how I want to argue that point but I wont because some people just can't accept that somebody has a different opinion. I wish everyone would stop being so butt hurt about things (to the point of writing to the bbc, wtf?!) and just be haaaaappy. OMG I KNOW I'M WHINING ABOUT WHINERS TOO; HYPOCRIT I AM!
On a seperate note I'm totally stealing the second meme. Though I am terrible at meme's...I still haven't finished that Harry Potter one yet; I SUCK!
