In which I pass the time
Mar. 30th, 2010 02:09 am![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
I'm so bloody bored. This took weeks, yo.
Pick a person/place/thing you love, hate or just want to write about for each letter of the alphabet and talk about it.
Arguments - I am incapable of winning an argument. Even if I feel I'm in the right, which isn't often the case because I have a bad habit of picking arguments just for the sake of it, I can never think up the right way to present my side of things.
Ballet flats - god, I hate these shoes. My hatred borders on irrational, it really does. I can't even explain why but every time I see them on some girl, I want to scream, and EVERYONE seems to wear them, so you can imagine my pain.
Chocolate milk - drinking a really good chocolate milk is almost a religious experience for me, I'm not even kidding. The smooth, velvety texture is divine. If I could only live on one substance for the rest of my life, it would be this.
Dancing - I think if I were skinny, I'd be a pretty alright dancer. As it happens though, I'm not, so I just look ridiculous, but I love it anyway.
Ears - I think I've mentioned this before, but I have somewhat of a phobia about people touching my ears. I hate, hate, hate it and to a lesser extent, I hate seeing people playing with their own ears. Especially the lobe bit. Argh, even saying the word lobe makes me feel disgusting.
Fettuccine - only the most kickass of all the pastas.
George Harrison - I'm 48% sure he was my favourite Beatle. I'm pretty indecisive but he generally wins on the polls in my head.
Hufflepuff - I would totally be in Hufflepuff. What really grates my goat is the constant assumption that Hufflepuff is the worst house. I've always heard the words pushover, nice, and wimp associated with the house, but no where in the information we're given about it, does it say this. Over the years, the Sorting Hat describes 'Puffs as the following: just, loyal, patient, true, unafraid of toil and hard-working. There is nothing there I would be ashamed of being. The most wonderful quote about 'Puffs also comes from the Sorting Hat; 'Said Hufflepuff, "I'll teach the lot, and treat them just the same."' A house that's accepting and doesn't discriminate right off the bat? Yeah, I'd take that one any day.
It Happened One Night - my most favourite old-time film. Clark Gable and Claudette Colbert apparently didn't get along but that adds immensely to the way they interact and the chemistry they have together. I desperately wanted someone to write this for
reel_merlin. Just picture it - a spoilt heiress (Arthur OBVS) runs away from her father to be with her new husband (Sophia?). The father doesn't approve, see, and wants them to divorce. So she runs away, taking public transport to stay incognito. On a bus she meets a smart, sassy journalist (Merlin, who totes has sass down pat) who promises to get her to her husband if he can have the full story (he's just been fired and needs something to get his job back). Shenanigans, bickering and love ensues as they make their way to New York! It's perfect, right?! Watch the beginning of this clip. Not only is that the best freak out EVER, but more to the point, guh, the tension when he tucks her into his coat. Just picture Arthur and Merlin and UNF, WANT.
Jealousy - one of my most unattractive traits and I do have quite a few.
Kylie - meeeeee. Apparently in Australian Aboriginal it means boomerang. I always make the joke that I was called this because you can try to get rid of me but I always keep on coming back. I'm not fond of my name or the letter, but my Mum says I was thisclose to being called Kimberly, so I guess having a K name was always going to be the case.
Leon - well, I had to find some way to mention Merlin and Leon somehow always ends up being the one to help me. For serious, I love the way a lot of fandom has become attached to him, considering he barely had any lines. He's brilliant to mock and not bad on the eyes, overall, the perfect supporting player.
Mason - my absolute favourite, favourite TV character ever. Dead Like Me as a whole was a funny show but Mason was written to comic perfection. YouTube doesn't have a big choice, but I like this clip.
Norse mythology - pips in just before Greek as my favourite mytholgy. Shit was fierrrrrce back than, it's always interesting to see how people's religions helped them and I find the Norse gods immensely entertaining. Plus, it's fascinating to see how their stories influenced the Christian missionaries who came to convert them. For instance, the Norse spoke of Ragnarok, pretty much the end of the world with everybody fighting everybody and ultimately perishing. The world is purged of good and evil, except two figures, a man and a woman. According to people smarter than me, the Christians then wrote of Adam and Eve to help convince the pagans that Christianity was not different than the religion they were used to, it was just a new beginning for the same characters. Stuff like this fascinates me.
Order of the Stick - my favourite webcomic. And I say this having never, ever played a game of Dungeons & Dragons.
Piercings - I'm not a fan at all, I don't think they look good anywhere, on anyone. Even the concept is ridiculous. Drilling a hole in your body to put a bit of jewelry in? Why would this ever, EVER be considered appealing? I think I'm just a cranky old lady though
Quitting smoking - I've now been smoke free for seven months, I can't believe it, time flies. It was seriously easier than I'd thought it would be, I only used patches for a few days. Mind over matter and all that jazz!
Roast dinners - I've never understood the great fuss about roast dinners. I used to eat them, begrudgingly, but we had them every week and I just got so sick of eating the same boring thing. Nowadays, I'll only eat one at Christmas.
Scorpio - the skeptic in me says astrology is a bunch of crap, but Scorpio profiles always seem to accurately portray me. Emotional and intuitive? Check. Jealous and resentful? Check. Compulsive and obsessive? Check. Secretive and obstinate? Check. Hard. At least Pluto, as my ruling planet, is still actually considered a planet in astrology.
Two birds are sitting on a perch, one says, 'hey, something smells like fish' - this is my most favourite lame joke ever. I remember telling this joke on the way to play snooker with some friends and I'd never laughed so hard in waiting for them to get it and realise what a ridiculous joke it really was.
Uzbekistan - I know nothing about this country (googling it now) but I've always genuinely thought the name was rocking. Oh, Wikipedia tells me the calling code is 998, guys. I smell an hilarious yet language-barrier obstructed prank call coming on.
Veges - I'm not the biggest fan of meat, so I feel I'd totally be an awesome vegetarian if I could bring myself to find some sort of flavour and edibility in most vegetables. But I can't. To me, the majority are just crunchy globs of watery nothingness. But I want to like them, I do!
Wizards of Waverly Place - I like the show. I shouldn't, but I do *hangs head in shame*
Xander - the heart of the Scoobie Gang (a la Buffy). I adored him but then, I've always had a thing for the funny guys.
Yann Tiersen - composer of the Amelie soundtrack, one of my favourite soundtracks of all time. The music is unmistakably French and it takes you directly to the streets and roads of France. It's whimsical and hopeful and utterly gorgeous.
Zombie Jesus - best Futurama saying!

Leon is a phenomenon, I love him <3
I knoooow, right, it was a tough call to make between the Norse and Greek! I do very much love me some Greek mythos though. Apollo, Odysseus, Charon, FASCINATING!
I've always felt bad for Xander. With no superpowers like his friends, he's always just that little bit on the outside, it makes me sad.

Date: 2010-03-29 05:37 pm (UTC)2.)Kylie.....hmmmmm....I don't know what I think of this choice for K. =B
3.)LEON!!!! I would be his fanclub. No doubt about it.
4.) WTF?! NORSE?!?!?!? Greeeeeeek!!! Or even Roman. But GREEEEEEK!!!
5.) Piercings. It's okay. I'm addicted to them enough for the two of us. Which reminds me that I want another set before grad....hmmmmm. ;)
6.)YANN TIERSEN MAKES MY LIIIIIFE! Right up there with Dario Marienelli. Who is probably ahead of Tiersen by a bit because he is so fucking brilliant. Atonement anyone? Fuck that broke my heart.

Date: 2010-03-30 01:27 am (UTC)K was one of the last letters, I was kind of struggling to think of something :P
Leon is love!
Oh god, Greek yes, but not Roman, man, they stole the Greek gods and just gave them new names!
UGH, don't tell me where you're pierced, it'll unleash the hidden cranky grandma in me.

Date: 2010-03-30 04:20 am (UTC)Ahahahahah. How about...koalas? Or kissing? Or King Lear? (Shut it).
Shut it. I like my Greek and Roman myths. Norse is just wtfery. And folklore. I love me my folklore. Anything European. Though, I read a book that got me addicted to the Canadian folklore. I should check that out.....
....To tell the truth or to lie that is the question. (Hamlet is taking over my liiiife!). I have seven piercings. I want to get up to thirteen. =D

Date: 2010-03-30 05:17 am (UTC)Tattoos don't bother me. Clearly, in my mind, dragging a needle through skin is much more acceptable than poking one through?

Date: 2010-03-30 01:31 am (UTC)It's possible it's a language barrier thing, I can't say more without giving it away, which I refuse to do because it ruins the lameness hilarity when you figure it out. Google it, you'll find the answer!
Yes, but you're younger than me, it's more acceptable to watch kid's shows at your age than at mine :P

Date: 2010-03-29 06:56 pm (UTC)I also have always thought I'd be in Hufflepuff, too. (Once I got over my Gryffindor's-the-best! phase. Because seriously? I am so not a Gryffindor.) It's either that or Ravenclaw, but while I was semi-smart in school and always have been, I think I'm more of the type of person who works hard (I do procrastinate and all of that, though, so I don't know...) but I wouldn't go out and try to get about a million OWLs or take all the advanced classes or anything.

Date: 2010-03-30 01:36 am (UTC)I can see you as a Puff for sure. I procrastinate too, I'm even very lazy, it just depends on whether the subject interests me. I'd be a very hard worker in Care Of Magical Creatures, less so in Divination, you know what I mean?
Know your fish, that's all I can say about that joke. Or give in and google it ^_^

GOOD WORK!!! I've have been smoke free a month tomorrow. I've been finsing it super easy sp yay, mind over matter is something I agree with.
Man, this must have taken a while! You must be very patient :D

Date: 2010-03-30 01:43 am (UTC)YAY, WELL DONE, YOU! It's something you definitely won't regret. Ohh, good work, I'm really happy for you!
I am not patient at all. That's why, after having the meme sitting round on private for weeks with 7 letters left, I'm just like 'fuck it, I've gotta get this done or it's going to end up deleted!' xD

Date: 2010-03-30 07:05 am (UTC)That It Happened One Night concept is brilliant and if it doesn't happen I might cry big, fat tears of injustice.
Oh, and veggies are full of deliciousness, you just have to prepare them right. So often people boil or cook them to death and they end up sad and flavourless. I think roasting veggies is the ultimate method and you have to season them (a little sea salt never hurt anyone). Yum yum yum.

Date: 2010-03-30 07:23 am (UTC)I do admit, I'm starting to enjoy roast potatoes a lot more these days.

Date: 2010-04-02 08:08 am (UTC)Ugh, as for the ears thing, I was sitting on the tram on the way home and in front of me was a couple, and the girl kept messing with the guy's ear. It was really, really disgusting. I didn't even think I thought that was an issue until last night...
Ooooh Norse Mythology! Whenever I think of that I think of the Diane Wynne Jones book Eight Days of Luke where all the Norse gods come back to earth. It's really good!
And finally: ♥ Xander and Yann Tierson
Great meme! xD
