Mum: *Opens my door* There's a tsunami warning this morning.
Me: *Leaps out of bed, flailing* Vysiudnea?! (What?)
Mum: There was an earthquake in Chile. It's not supposed to be a wave-making one though, it's just gonna make the tides go a bit wonky.
Me: *Blink* GTFO *Throws pillow and goes back to sleep*

How about last December, when she informs me of my cousin's accident.

Mum: *Opens the door quietly and speaks gently* There's been a change of plans for Christmas because Rachel's been run over by a boat.
Me: What, but...oh my god...how...
Mum: They reckon the blades on the motor went right into her head. So they won't be coming up.
Me: Shit, I can't believe this, she was only a year younger than me.
Mum: They let her talk on the phone to Nan though, when Rod called from the hospital.
Me: ...So she's not dead?

Or on 9/11.

Mum: *Flings open my door* Someone's bombing America!
Me: *Falls out of bed and immediately starts plans to built a bomb shelter*
Mum: *Turning on TV* Ohhh, no they aren't, someone's hijacked a few planes, how awful!
Me: Indeed, but significantly less concerning to my personal health than nuclear winter.

My brother always wakes me up in the middle of the night and asks me things. I worry about my answers, because when I'm half-asleep I can't be expected to make sense. "Do we have any macaroni and cheese?" "I think Merlin ate it all." (That hasn't happened, but I wouldn't be surprised if it someday does. You know Merlin likes his mac and cheese.)

And my mother told me that my grandma had died, years ago, at 2am. :\ (The reason being because Mom was going over to her mom's house, and wanted me to know, I guess? Still...)

So, being woken in the middle of the night with questions or Important Things: no. Just no.

Gah, I worry about that too! Coupled with the fact there are some times when people have woken me up to tell me something and I ignore them and go back to sleep, only to have no recollection of being awoken when I get up later. I'm always worried one day I'll forget being told something very, very important!
