I can't decide. I mean, I liked it. Definitely didn't hate it. But I'm left with the same feeling as I had when I left the theatre for GOF. I'd say it was disappointing but it's not that exactly. It was how everyone described it - continuously funny with terrific action sequences. I guess I'm just not getting the 'OMG BEST FILM EVAH' like most other people?
Parts I liked (in no particular order) :
- The tiniest mention of Regulus Black
- The perfect person cast in these films is Dame Maggie Smith. I think I've critised everyone else at some stage or another, but not her. She is divine as McGoogles <3
- Slughorn's story about Lily. That was genuinely emotional and okay Kloves, one point for you. But just the one. You'll never truly be forgiven for giving Hermione all of Ron's best lines in the other films.
- My favourite line comes from Harry. He's with Dumbledore and says something along the lines of "Should I let him [Slughorn] collect me?" Very proactive Harry!
- When Lavender fogs up the train window and draws the love heart, I seriously cringed. But in a good way!
- The camera movements were superb, especially following the death eaters in the first few minutes. I was right down the front of the cinema and looking up at the big screen, it felt like I was on a rollarcoaster.
- Speaking of the first few minutes, YES YES YES to the the OOtP flashback. That was amazing.
- This has already been said a ton of times, but both Tom Felton and Rupert Grint were great. Ohh and Radcliffe on Felix Felicis was hilarious.
- Cormac McLaggen...I have no words for him except LOLZ. What a douche.
Things I didn't like:
- For the most part I've supported Michael Gambon as Dumbledore but I just wasn't feeling him in this one.
- Can't say I saw anything remarkable about Jim Broadbent either, although I liked him a whole lot more in the second half of the film.
- Awkward silence during conversations - did anyone else notice this or was it just me? I think it might have just been with the younger actors. The scene I remember in particular is when the trio are at the Three Broomsticks.
- Ron not talking AT ALL in the last few minutes. Bzuh?
- Dumbledore's death wasn't emotional enough for me. I cried over Cedric, I did not cry over Dumbledore. This should not be the case.
I'm sure there's more for both sides but I haven't been to bed yet and the sun has already risen. Night!
