Came across a post on tumblr today requesting fics containing dubcon and was delighted to find a fic I hadn't read in years. And not just that, I think this might have been THE fic. You know. THE fic. The one that gets you into fandom. The one that convinces you to try more of this fanfiction business. The one that could have been made for you, were you not still just a lurking lurker who has no friends yet.

I wonder all the time: what if I hadn't read such good fics and never gotten into fandom and never found some really fucking amazing people?

I really don't know where I'd be right now.

A Hard-On For Violence is the fic, by the way. Is it any wonder teenage boys are my favourite (...trope in fandom, internet police, please sit back down)? This fic must have set the precedent for me (after being conditioned by years of Harry/Draco, Ron/Draco fic of course).

AND I HAD COMPLETELY FORGOTTEN ABOUT IT.

Anyway. There is no real point to this entry, I just felt like sharing my happy days and yay fic feeling.

Is there one particular fic that got you into Merlin fandom?

Also, [livejournal.com profile] carnivors, do you remember when we were discussing dark!Merlin a couple of months ago and I'm like, duuude, you have to read this one thing, it's totally fucked up and brilliant, and then I couldn't remember what it was? BOOM.

This got me thinking about some of the first EVER fanfics I read. They were... not good. I distinctly remember one that was on some kind of fansite for Hermione/Emma Watson and it was so OOC and LONG but I printed the whole damn thing out. And even a few years later I would share it with friends at school... jeez. Sometimes I do wonder about old fanfics or old sites from my earlier days, or the people from back then.

And then I move on because man that was an embarrassing time of my life.

Anyway, I could stop rambling and tell you I think it's cool you were able to find that fic again! It's kind of cool to see how your perceptions change over time... For me, there's always a period of purity at the beginning of getting into something, where I may like the character dynamics while watching or reading, and then feel hesitant to delve into the actual fandom/fanfic, but then BAM before I know it I'm reading porn of everyone and wondering how I ever DIDN'T want that. And once again the balance is restored to nature.

Ahaha, yes, I've done some printing in my day too XD Oh, the days of crappy geocities webpages. Where would we be today but for them?

Was HP your first foray into fiction then? Mine was Hanson back in '97/8. OH GOD.

That's interesting you feel hesitant, I've never had that, though I never specifically go searching for fanfic in the beginning, I've always just stumbled across it.

Oh, porn fic about characters we love. You're the best *sigh*
